He was born in Detroit and raised in East Detroit. He currently has a home in Casco Township. He has three sons; Derek works at the Richmond Community Schools, Philip attends Central Michigan University and Mark attends Michigan State University.

Dr. Howell chose the veterinary field because he has always loved animals and enjoyed science class in high school. He went to work at a veterinary clinic and enjoyed it so much that he decided to pursue the schooling he needed to become a veterinarian.

He attended Wayne State University, transferring to Michigan State University and earning a Bachelors degree in veterinary science in 1980, he then continued on earning a DVM (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) degree in 1984.

Dr Howell's goal for the future at Howell Veterinary Care Center is to continue to provide exceptional care for his patients and exceptional client service.

Dr. Howell and his sons like to read, go to the movies, golf and appreciate the outdoors.

James Coleman, DVM

Dr. Coleman was born and spent his formative years in southwest Pennsylvania. His family moved often and he lived in Ohio for several years and then finally came to Michigan where he started high school in Lake Orion.

He had an interest in the biological sciences but did not consider himself very good with mathematics. Though his physician granduncle urged him to consider medical school even as a child, he really did not have an interest in it. Fate intervened, as Dr. Coleman secured a cleaning/kennel position when in high school. It was then he decided he wanted to become a veterinarian. During this time he learned to play bagpipes and played in a bagpipe band performing in parades, weddings, funerals as well as for self enjoyment.

Dr. Coleman attended Michigan State University graduating with a BS degree in medical technology. In 1977 he completed his medical studies and
graduated with a DVM degree.
He has been in general practice in Oakland County for over 30 years which included a year in emergency medicine. He has a black belt in Ken Po karate and enjoys radio controlled model building. He has tracked his family tree in this country to pre revolutionary days.

He is a member of Lake Orion Lodge #46 F & AM and is also a 32nd degree mason and a member of the Scottish Rite. He is also a member of the
American Veterinary Medical Association.
His goals are to assist and contribute to keeping the Howell Veterinary Care Center at the leading edge of quality veterinary medicine and client care.
